Karting champion Tom Harvey in action.

Tom won the British Super One Cadet Championship 2010, and is the most successful cadet driver in the UK this year, gaining 22 National Podiums, 8 of which were wins, along with 10 other club podiums in 2010.

He is going to be competing in the highly converted KF3 class in 2011, and one of the rounds will be held at Larkhall Kart Circuit. After the fantastic hospitality and support Tom received at the Moorings Hotel, he has already booked to stay again in the 2011 season. Hopefully some of the lucky Scottish heather will rub off on Tom again and he gets another Scottish podium.

There are different formats, but essentially a Murder Mystery Night is live theatre with the added excitement that you can become a part of the story by interacting with the actors as the plot unravels. Often set around the dinner table, you the audience watch the actors play out a few short acts where you’ll learn who the characters are and what their motives for murder are.

The story can either be scripted or improvised by the actors and it’s up to you to keep track of the twists and turns in the plot, identify the suspects and clues and eventually solve the murder by finding out the culprit.

The depth of the plot and characters can often vary from simple to complex. Some Murder Mystery Nights require the audience to be simply passive observers, others are very realistic (leaving out a real murder, of course) with some plot scenarios based on actual events and the experience feeling like an actual murder investigation, while others rely on the creativity of the actors as they make up character and plot elements on the spot which makes solving the case more of a challenge. Another type of Murder Mystery Night has a comedy flavour, often in the “Carry On” tradition with plenty of puns, double-entendres and slapstick action.

Families and groups of friends often organise Murder Mysteries, but a Murder Mystery Night is also great as a corporate event because everyone is familiar with everyone else and it acts as a fun teambuilding excercise.

Previous bonfires were lit in the middle of Strathclyde Loch making for an impressive spectacle with the flames licking high and reflecting off the water.

The fireworks display itself starts at 8.20pm and will last about 30 minutes and is always a magnificent sight especially as, like the bonfire, the fireworks reflect off the loch.

The event is free as is car parking, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and unfortunately no sparklers or fireworks are permitted in the interests of safety.

The family, who originally hail from Rigside near Lanark, came from as far afield as Aberdeen, London, Hawick and Ayrshire and joined the locals for their 5th Annual Family Gathering. It was their 2nd year at The Moorings and they have already booked for next year! Three generations were present; from the matriarch (you should easily be able to identify her) down to the grandchildren.

This year a few of the more talented regulars were missing so the cabaret wasn’t quite up to the standards of previous year. However, let’s hope the Halloween theme will inspire everyone in 2011.

And as for the karaoke, the staff all agreed that the Argent kids were definitely much better singers than their dad!

If only all families could live in harmony in these troubled times perhaps the world would be a better place. Hopefully this will inspire others to do the same and where better than here at The Moorings.
