Glasgow golf courses are often overlooked in favour of their more famous counterparts in Fife, East Lothian and the Central Belt, but there are many top quality courses all within a short drive from the Moorings Hotel.

Haggs Castle Golf Club is set in the beautiful Pollok Country Park in secluded surroundings only one mile from Glasgow city centre. Having hosted several European Tour events as well as the Scottish PGA Championship, it has a reputation as one of the finest parkland courses in Scotland. The course is characterised by its dog-legs, trees and burns, and because of its many hazards every shot must be carefully thought out to achieve a low score. The club is easy to get to, has excellent clubhouse facilities, and visitors are welcome on weekdays and tee times must be pre-booked.

The immaculate Williamwood Golf Club in Glasgow’s South Side was designed by famous designer James Braid in 1926 and due to the cunningly positioned trees and bunkers requires accurate shots from tee to green for a low scoring round. Visitors are welcome by prior arrangement on weekdays and have full use of the superb facilities which include trolley hire, changing rooms and practice ground.

Glasgow Golf Club is the ninth oldest club in the world and is unique in that it has two courses 35 miles apart – Glasgow Gailes on the Ayrshire coast and Killermont in Bearsden, Glasgow. The condition of the courses is impeccable and the stunning design of every hole ensures a world class golfing experience. Visitors are welcome but may require a member to sign them in. If you want to brush up on your swing, look no further than Gary Mitchell Golf in Uddingston, a short drive from the Moorings. There is a superb driving range with 25 bays which usually need to be pre-booked. Tuition is available, but due to Gary’s high reputation, lessons must be booked well in advance. In addition to the driving range there is a large, well-stocked golf shop.
